Hi everybody, I just want to share with you I've been awarded with the Premio Europeo de Nueva Creación de Folclore Agapito Marazuela. Congratulations, Roberto. I haven't heard the other contenders, but I should think it is a well deserved victory. It is very interesting to hear a fusion of Bluegrass and Iberian (Catalan?) folk music - it highlights the influence that settlers from that part of Europe in the Southern states must have had on the development of the Bluegrass genre.
The first track sounds like a bagpipe tune. It is always nice to hear pipe tunes played on mandolin - or on any other instrument. In many places with piping traditions, pipe tunes seem to be largely confined to the repertoires of pipers themselves, and rarely heard played on other instruments.

Gracias David, me alegro de que a un colega mandolinista le guste! ¿Conoces el disco "Mandolina" de Carlos Beceiro?
Whistler, it's Iberian music, but not Catalan, it's Castillian (from Castilla). The first track is an old dulzaina tune. A dulzaina is a sort of spanish pipe. I think the dulzaina tunes work so well for the mandolin.
