Ok,
I need some assistance in trying to find information about a Mandolin.
The Peghead reads: "Harmony Monterey" with a serial number of 4752n417.
I'm not sure if it is an "n" or "h" but I think it is an "n".
Any idea about the age? I think it is pre-war but not sure. It is in excellent condition with the exception of 3 tuner knobs disingerated. Not sure of what material they have a golden yellow cast. Everything else is great even the case.
Any thoughts of value or where I can find more information.

Thanks,

Joe

It's an H not an N. It stood for Harmony. They really didn't serialize these so you can't really date them that way. There may be another number that's there, it will be a number like F-58 or S-62. It may be in an oval or a square and you may have to look hard for it. Chances are it isn't pre-war (a picture would help, make sure you include a shot of the back of the headstock). The crumbling tuners point to a late 40's through early 60's model. Without knowing that other number is or seeing some pictures you don't have too much hope of ID'ing it. On a good day they don't bring much more than $250.00, usually less than that.

And to think I bought one in 1956 while in the Air Force at Lackland AFB for $25.95....I played it for many, many years and I stored it under a bed while I was overseas and when I got home the neck had pulled loose so I glued it back and played it for another year or so until I bought my first Gibson, an A 50.....Willie
