I'm not sure where best to post this, so I have put it here and in the theory thread.

For a jazz theory course I had to transcribe a solo. I recently discovered Eric Skye and Tim Connell on youtube and decided to transcribe Tim's solo on Miles Davis's Freddie Freeloader. Here is the video:

And here is my transcription, attached. It's not perfect, but I did my best to get the rhythms right. I left out some of the trills. Figuring this solo out really let me look inside Tim's Playing and, though I hadn't heard of him until i saw this video, really appreciate his musical taste. Apologies to Tim for the imperfect transcription if he comes across this.

Oh, also I only did 3 choruses. I will probably do the fourth, but we were only assigned three and now I have to learn it in a different key and transpose it to Bb and Eb.

It's nice playing and well worth transcribing. A few little points: You've given the head from some other source. Why not take it down just as played? By the way, you're missing a repeat sign after 12 and first and second ending indications at 9 and 13. Main problem is, they're playing in Bb but you give the key signature for C major-- this means we can't see what's diatonic and what goes outside the scale. Also, naming of accidentals should agree with the chord (e.g. Db not C# with an Eb7 chord). A few little rhythmic things too, but a good start! Thanks for posting.

Hello Baron - thanks for getting to know my playing a bit - it looks like a pretty solid transcription to me!
All the best to you, hope to meet you down the road sometime,
Tim

Tim's one of the nicest AND best mandolin players I've ever had the pleasure of meeting and getting a lesson or two from. I've had a few lessons from great players who seem to be in teaching for a bit of hero worship, but Tim was very helpful on a lot of levels. He gets my vote for best mandolin player in the Portland area, at least.

He is a really tasty swinging player. (Keep those videos coming, Tim!) I'm looking forward to meeting Tim and some of the other fine Portland players at River of the West in June.
