There was an old 5 stringer sitting in my basemest I thought I might improve it so I converted it into an Irish Tenor by taking off the 5th string and tuned it to (Low to High) E, B, F#, C# then capoed it at the 3rd fret and I hammered out some tunes I'll have to get used to the stretch and change the strings but it is pretty cool. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

I love my Tenor banjo...it's everybody else who hates it! At a local festival a few weeks back I brought my tenor banjo and the week before that I had brought my tenor guitar. One of my friends who can play just about anything asked if I had the t-guit and when I said no but I got the t-banjo he just said...why? LOL http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

You know what they say:
"If your gonna play Banjo, make it a Tenor... Ten or Twelve miles away!"

I have a nice Vega tenor, no tone ring. I removed the resonator and flanges so it is acceptable now in the folk group.

I love the Tenor Banjo. I used to play alot of Dixieland. That's where I got my mando training.

Don't be bullied by the banjo haters. Be proud if you like it. It's not the banjo that you should hate, it's the loud banjo players who are ruining the country.[/B]

I tend to wait too long before starting to work on Christmas songs. Last year I decided about Dec 1 to get some under my fingers. Suddenly it was time to be playing them and I was still in the learning stage, then Christmas came and went and who wants to play them in January. I will start earlier this year. There are quite a few in the tabedit files. The Simple Gifts site has a beautiful version of Silent Night with lots of double stops. Also, as previously mentioned, Roland Whites's site.

I just got a CD by ThaMuseMeant. David Tiller is the mando player (and a heck of a nice guy) in the group. I'd describe the music almost as acid folk. I think he plays a tenor banjo on it too. GREAT CD! Made me want to practice my tenor...

Album is called "Silver Seed".
