I have an old mandolin-banjo with a badly twisted neck. Its a simple bolt on and I was wondering where I could get one preferably with fretboard attached. Maybe there would be a cheap mandolin I could buy with a bolt on I could transplant.

I haven't heard a mandolin made of chestnut, but Warren May in Berea, Ky makes some mellow sounding dulcimers from it. Mike

Think Mike's post was intended for this thread (http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/showthread.php?60530-Sweet-Chestnut-for-Tonewood) instead of its current location: moderator might consider moving it over...?

As for the mandolin-banjo neck, (1) I assume when you say "simple bolt-on" that it doesn't have a dowel stick running through the shell to the tailpiece end, but is just bolted on to one side, and (2) IMHO your best bet is to cannibalize another mandolin-banjo to get a usable neck/fretboard. There are scads of these instruments around at reasonable prices, since many were made 75-100 years ago, but few are played today. I'd go to the local instrument dealers/repair shops and see if they have any hanging around that they'd "part out."

Either that or check out eBay for mandolin banjos, they are regularly there, many missing pieces.

I recently purchased a "Luthiers Bluegrass mandolin kit" on ebay for $105 with shipping. It is Not a very good kit because of its fully assembled plywood body. However, it comes with a fully assembled neck that is pretty nice and kit comes with hardware ( you can never have too much hardware) and costs less than a Mandolin neck frome Stew-mac.
