I have recently acquired a Puglisi mandolin. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to age or value please? It is in reasonably good condition, showing signs of having been played a lot over the years, and needs re-stringing. The stamp on the front is a little difficult to read. The top word/s appear to start with"MA" and they finish with "SELLA". The Puglisi ant logo is in the middle, with an "M" on the left of it and a "C" on the right. At the bottom is the word "CATANIA". The label inside reads "Guiseppe Puglisi" "Fondata nel 1880" (Founded in 1880). This seems to pre-date the firm's post 1906 name and labels of "G. Puglisi Reale i Figli" (Puglisi and sons). The tuner buttons appear to be made of wood. Any ideas?

They seem to have been a popular export mandolin, I've seen them from all over the world, and in many styles. They don't seem to have had a dedicated "house style". I have one I'm fixing up that I bought from a guy in Peru. A some-what well thought of middle-class mandolin is my impression. THey are not very valuable, I think they end up considered better than Stridente but not as much as a DeMeglio, to give well-known names for comparison. Can't really help on the date, but I recall ones in good condition going for $250-300.

This thread (http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/showthread.php?5739-PUGLISI) from the Classical section of the forum has some interesting information on Puglisi.
