Yeah, I just went through that last week with Frances, too, except that I have no laptop, and we're now down to only one computer, after the other one sustained damage http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif But I did practice a lot...

Just out of curiosity, what songs did you pratice? I can think of a few that are appropriate. How about the one that goes, "How I wish I were up on a windy mountain....." Or, how about "How High's the Water Mama".

kupp, where are you located? I'm in Fairhope on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay; you know, the place that got all the landfall hype! As the storm hit Gulf Shores, Pensacola seems to have gotten the worst of Ivan.

"beware of the eastern side of hurricanes" Mom, circa 1992 (I think, my memory fails me often)#
Hurricane Andrew was bearing down on us and in a phonecall she offered up that tidbit of advice...like I was gonna head for the western side of it to be safe! Pensacola definatly took it bad. #Any folks from those affected areas, I wish ya a safe passage and hope your lives get back to normal ASAP!

The sad thing for us here in N.C. is all of the flooding and several tornadoes for the last month and here comes more. #The watches and warnings are already out. #The federal government has already sent FEMA in for the people that lost everything due to the floods. #Of course I am glad that what we are getting are tropical storms and not the full force of the hurricanes but those mountains just drain the water down on us.

Ken,
I live in midtown Mobile near the malls. How did you guys do? We had a lot to clean up but no major damage. The night of the storm I thought my house was goig to fall over..

Hi kupp, Glad to see you are still with us. I know your area quite well, as I lived in Mobile from '57 to '93. I was in Westlawn (just a couple of streets behind Springdale) during Frederic. The house I had then (9/12/79) was a frame number built around '41, but took that storm without a whimper! Personally, I had slight damage from Ivan, but many houses in Fairhope took shots from big pine trees. Do you attend the jams at West Mobile Music? If not, call Tommy Allen for details; some great music out there!

hooboy, hope all you folks made out alright. Here is S. La, we were extremely nervous about Ivan's track, could have been disastrous for the fragile coastal marshes here.
No electricity? Practice in the dark? Until the hands start sweating from lack of A/C! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

Kupp- I live off of Florida St. in Briarwood, small world. We should get together and pick, nothing else to do at night. I had a pecan tree slam into our driveway and missed the car by inches. We still do not have power and since my line was knocked from my house, it most likely will be a little while. I intend on making a mandolin out of the pecan wood, I doubt it will sound like my Weber, but it is a great idea- I hated that tree.
