View Full Version : Gibson A-Jr
Man, I love these things! (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=359&item=3748717329&rd=1)
It does look sweet.
It's not mine and I don't know the seller.
Too bad it's not a snakehead

I honestly have never seen one that was supposedly a 1927 model with that script. Help explain Gibson experts.

Something just seems weird about that mando.
And there is something white sticking out from the bridge.
I do not think a logo would be on an Ajr. It may have been added in the 30's but that year is not far away either.

That actually looks more like a late 40's or 50's logo to me.

Most likely it was returned to the Gibson factory in the 1960s or so. At that time it was not unheard for them to refinish the instruments -- even vintage ones -- in the manner of current ones. If this had been an A4 it might have been refinned with a cherry sunburst. I have seen a 1930s L1 with one of those cherry sunbursts.
In any case, that is my theory, it looks much to clean and shiny to have the original finish and that square script is a give-away.

Yes, the script on the headstock looks out of place and it does look like a refinish job. Where's Darryl and Dan when you need them http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I wouldn't let a non-original Jr. run me off if was bent on picking one up at a good price. They have such sweet tone. Like the one I found recently:
Someone nailed it, a nice deal I reckon. The "Gibson" up there silkscreened in gold paint is roughly 50's or later, that's probably the vintage of the bridge with big adjusting wheels too. Hard to say why it was back at Gibson at that time, but nothing to worry about usually.
Just that white thing sticking out from the bridge is my question. Hopefully it's just a bridge thing.

I looked at that yesterday. It's definately a 50's or 60's logo and peghead/neck....but beyond that it appears that the peghead may have been grafted on. At any rate the neck or the peghead one is slightly askew to the body

Just that white thing sticking out from the bridge is my question. Hopefully it's just a bridge thing.
It looks like a piecce of cardboard or paper stuck under the bass end of the bridge. A little suspect possibly indicating top sinkage, I would think, or, at the least, a suspect bridge.
