View Full Version : Online Radio Stations
Does anyone know some good on-line radio stations with lots of mando music?
On Sunday evenings from 7-10pm the Princeton University radio station has a program called "Music You Can't Hear on the Radio" hosted by John Weingart. It's a nice mix, with mandolin occasionally popping up.

I've never been to the site bluegrass country, but they carry the show "stained glass bluegrass", which is produced at WAMU in Washington, D.C. It is a wonderful show with great gospel music that has been going strong since the days before the internet.

CMT (http://www.cmt.com)
Click on "radio", to the right on the side, and then you can choose bluegrass radio, there are several stations but the bluegrass radio is the best.
Live Ireland (http://www.liveireland.com)
Great site for Irish trad music radio. It's rather mixed but very much trad music, good radio station. Almost the only one Irish radio that doesn't require Real Audio.

kvmr.org Lots of folk oriented programs including bluegrass, blues, celtic, world beat, etc. along with some pretty good Rabble Rousers.

WGCS - "The Globe" (http://globeradio.org/index.php)
"91.1 FM The Globe is the non-commerical educational radio service of Goshen College and a premier showcase for #contemporary music featuring an eclectic blend of Americana, #world, folk and bluegrass music."
It's not exactly "Radio Free Folk," but pretty darn close. I'm biased - I sometimes sub for a friend on Monday nights from 9 to 11 pm (Indiana time) playing LOTS of old-time and a bit of folk. In general, the programming has lots of great music with lots of mandolin content - and this is almost always so from morning through late evening.

I am part of KBCS team here in the Seattle area that broadcasts bluegrass music on Sunday from 12:00 to 3:00 (Pacific Time). #You can get us over the Internet via our website (http://kbcs.fm) and just click on Listen Now.
I will be on the air this Sunday (9/19) - Tune In!

WNCW.org that bluegrass jack mentioned is pretty bluegrass friendly all day long. Lotsa bush, monroe, etc. They also play blues, folk and other stuff, but most of the time it is really good. I listen all day at work.

hey, somebody else lisens to alohajoe...small world now with the internet and all. Im a big fan of KPIG outta Freedom, Ca. too and Im constantly looking for new online reggae, bluegrass, and "world" music stations. I almost never listen to a local broadcast station nowadaze, even at work which for me is a new location 2 or 3 times a week as a finish carpenter.

www.soma.fm if you are into electronic stuff. They used to have a great classic country channel too, but it seems to have gone away. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
For bluegrass, the radio stuff on bluegrassbox.com is good.

Yep, Bluegrassbox.com is what I listen to mostly. I'm a big Yonder fan and they've got a dedicated channel there that airs a different one of hundreds of recorded live Yonder gigs every 24 hrs. Keep meaning to listen to some others but can't tear myself away!

BBC.co.uk radio scotland has weekly shows ['listen again'], 'take the floor' is live dance music , generally, accordion fronted, but great tunes, nontheless.
'traveling folk', and 'celtic connections' are other shows I like too, on that site.

Also would like to add Bluegrassradio.org to the list. It's a good one for bluegrass mandolin. I like it better than bluegrasscountry.org.
