I haven't seen any Weber Sweet Peas in the classifieds. Is this because few people have them, or because people tend to hang onto them? I'm thinking about getting one, but used ones for sale seem rare.

I just saw one on ebay yesterday.

I had one and prefered it to the Martin Backpacker. I didn't use it too much though. I think unless you really are backpacking, and space is a premium, a full sized cheap mandolin is just as good. I would even submit that a well set up Johnson or Rogue will sound better around a campfire than the Sweet Pea just because it will have more bottom end. However, if you really have space requirements, the Sweet Pea is sweet. The tailpiece design is great and it has nice lines and good sound considering it's small chamber.

Thanks for both replies. Are Sweet Peas a frequent item on Ebay? I never look there since I'd rather deal with the Cafe community on a used item.

That's where I got mine, several years ago... I don't often see Sweet Peas or Martin Backpackers on the Café Classifieds.

There was one sweet pea on the classifieds since I've been watching about 8 months. It sold in about a day if I remember right.

I doubt many buy them. Thats probably why you don't see many for resale. Is the full size mandolin really to big for travel?

My motivation is more based on limited lockable storage space at work, where I want to keep it for lunchtime practice. But for travel, I'd like to be able to put it into my checked in luggage, so yes, size does matter for that reason.

There's one on eBay right now. It's here (http://cgi.ebay.com/Weber-Sweet-Pea-Mandolin-w-Gigbag_W0QQitemZ300399736456QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_ DefaultDomain_0?hash=item45f1383688). At $335.00 retail (actual going price at Elderly) they aren't terribly expensive.

I have a Big Muddy MM8 in a gig bag that is really small and light. Nice for travel

I got mine for ~200-220. Sold it for the same. They hold their value used very well.

I wanted to close the loop on this thread, I ended up ordering a new Sweet Pea from Elderly, they had free shipping so I saved a little bit! The used one one on Ebay had two owners and went for 250.00 I think. It just felt better dealing with a known retailer.

I like the little thing! Once I got the action lowered to where I like it, I've started getting used to its narrow neck (narrower than both my Breedlove and Mandobird), and I think it will be a great joy.

Thanks for the replies and info, it all helped.
