My spirit varnish has very pleasant honey like odour and it takes only a couple seconds before the first wasp comes to taste it. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I've noticed that flies ect like shellac. Luckily it's drying fast enough (when sprayed) that they rarely lose any body parts

I KID YOU NOT... The name comes from the fact that it's made from the shell (hard wing cover) of the Lac beetle.. specifically the female Lac beetle. Therefore "she - lac"

Given this fact, maybe the fruit flies are male and therefore attracted by pheromone???
