Hi, I just got Ted Eschliman's book Getting into Jazz Mandolin. In the intro , it describes how the book is laid out to develop fingers, ears and brain in that order. I am looking for specific advice on ways to work through this book while getting the most out of it. Is it better to stay with the beginning exercises until they are learned by rote, then start on the next? Or can one get more out of it by playing each exercise (no matter how slowly) until it's right, then move to the next without memorizing? Thanks for your input.
TD
I'm working with the same book. My approach is a little different. See the Adventures in Super-Efficient Mandolin Practice (http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56384)thread for a detailed discussion.

The author has a Facebook site for discussion of Getting into Jazz Mandolin. There might be information on approaches there: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=48378448657
This thread discusses ways some use the book: http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=47570
Good luck with it. GiJM has really helped me to improve.
