In a pinch, I've used a bread closure tab... really, I have!

PickBoy has a little black thin pick that I discovered some time ago, it's the best I've ever had. Might be called Pick Boy Edge, don't know. I actually found an even thinner type in Norway, and that one is even better. Will never change it to anything else...will have to go to Norway every time I need picks.

I use LEGAL, PRE-BAN elephant ivory picks. Thick, hard with zero flexibilty. Very smooth as well. Dawg/Golden Gate shape.
Purchased from a member here at MandolinCafe.

At lunch I ran over to Arlington (I'm in Fort Worth, TX) and bought a Wegen 5mm. pick. That's not a typo, 5 mm.! Had a chance to try one out at Camp Bluegrass this summer and really liked it.
Will report back after I have a chance to try it out.
