Last night I had the opportunity to examine and play a new Gibson, apparently a proototype or early production model to be called A-35.
It is an A model body with snakehead peghead, and f-holes. The f-holes are smaller than those on an F-5. I could not feel the top bracing. It was, are you ready for this, a whiteface, actually a slight cream, or Old English White. Back and sides have a reddish cast. It would be ideal for an Indiana Hoosier fan.
It is a brand new mando, and has not completely opened up, I am sure. It does sound very nice, and was set up perfectly by Dave Harvey, whose signature is inside. Finish work and detailing were superior to some high end Gibsons I have seen recently. I always check the finish detail of the neck supporting the Florida peninsula, frequently sloppy-it was perfect on this mando.
Anyone else seen one of these?
