View Full Version : A-9 with position dots...?

I saw in another thread that the F-9's don't have position dots on the fretboard, and in the pictures of A-9's and F-9's that I have seen (admittedly not all that many), neither model appeared to have them. However, the A-9 that I purchased new this past July arrived with them installed from the factory.

Does anyone know if this was some sort of fluke, or has Gibson started putting position dots on all of the 9 series mandolins? (Maybe Big Joe can help with this one.)

PS: My A-9 is a GREAT mandolin...wonderful neck and playability, good "woody" sound that is opening up more every day. I am well pleased with it.

My A9 does not have fretboard markers to say.
But there are fretboard markers in the side binding.
Gibson does take orders on all of their mandos, maybe your's was a cancelled order.

The A9's are a joy to play are they not? I am not playing other mandos because of it.

I have to show off the flame darn it.

Edge markers are what counts in my experience...
My '21 A had none on the edge . so after a while,
I paid to have some put In.
Ah, that's better...

I know players whom have had glow in the dark side markers installed. Just like the Tritium gun sights.

Tritium? H3,ie, an isotope of hydrogen with 3 protons, made for and used to make A bombs.
its an unstable element ,so i dont get the idea of it in gunsights.

Take a lesson from all those watch dial painters #, if youre applying Radium, dont lick the brush tip!

I remember seeing a use of rhinestones as sidemarkers, to catch the available dim light.

No, its just the special "Dale Carter" series. Limited run of 250 like the "Wayne Benson", I hear! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I love my A9 as well, even though it has no fancy flame or figure. It's plain but I love the sound and feel of it. One of the things I like about the look is that the fingerboard has no markings on it. I think this mandolin is the best in it's price range currently available.
