My new Driftwood is ready to go, there is a new blonde in town. Check out the "Marlin" inlay and the rest of the pictures at the Driftwood website

Very very nice! I like the blonde with tortoise binding combination. Very pretty headstock too.

Now that is beautiful! Is it just me thinking so or are the block inlays in the fretboard abalone instead of MOP? If so I love it!

the back reminds me of the ocean. i love it.
Definitely a builder to watch, but I to am disappointed with that scroll binding on an otherwise stellar looking mando. Please don't take offense as honestly none was intended, just being brutally honest here. Kudos to the builder for making it clear in the photos. A blonde mando is a tough build as there is no where to hide. His mandos will soon be eye candy of the highest degree.
BTW....that scroll binding would be perfectly acceptable on a Gibson Jeremy. #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Just to humor your remark Dale, I never stated anything, or posted on any binding issues. #My whole view with my scroll obsession is the perfect symmetrical beauty of the scroll itself! #I could care less about the binding and the scrolls I have commented on did not have perfect symmetry. #Just look at the BrKlla mando and you will see that the curve, or button, of the scroll does not come around quite as far as it should. #If the binding is wrong, then the scroll will be. #The only reason I didn't comment on the "flaw" that you see in the pics is because the scroll is still pretty much near perfection. #You are looking at a flaw that occured because of an unsteady hand in doing binding. #If you will look just a bit deeper you will see that the overall cut and shape of the scroll itself are right in the wood.

Forget the scroll binding: how does it sound?! If it sounds as good as it looks then it's a winner!

The Marlin inlay was my idea, we fish offshore for marlin and have caught 3 in the last 3 trips, started catching them right when the mandolin was finished and drying. Had not caught one in the last year before now. What luck the mando brought, won about 2000.00 in prizes and cash from our last fishing tournament with 1st place in the blue Marlin division, catch and release. The sound is Great, hard for me to describe, much louder and richer than the Rigel I've been playing and the sustain is incredible. Excellent chop, My wife, who hates the mandolin, Loves the sound of this one, so it has to be good.

Me neal? I don't obsess about scrolls like you guys think even though it is the single most beautiful part of an F-5. The only thing I really, really obsess about is the playing of the instrument itself!

....and thank God I can play it instead of having to build it!

Wow.....Absolutely beautiful, congrats!
I love the blonde top with the tortoise binding, and the pickguard too, they all blend so well, and the water underneath the marlin is fantastic! This guy is so making my next mando...but I have to ask, since it's not on his site, how much?

I don't think Andy is taking order at the moment, but the last base price (June 04) for a Driftwood F is $2500. It was $2000 back in March, so by next year, $3000 perhaps, if popularity continues to grow...

Congratulations on that beautiful mandolin. I was lucky enough to get a hold of Andy just before his list skyrocketed, and so am now the proud owner of #007. If yours is anything like mine, you won't stop finding things you love about it, and it doesn't sound half bad either #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif .
