Hi,
I am considering getting a GEWA waldzither. Can anyone tell me anything about the quality/type of sound? Also the playability?

Thanks,

Claire,
As I understand it, GEWA is today not a manufacturer but a marketing company that markets all kinds of Asian-manufactured (PacRim) instruments. So GEWA instruments may come from many different manufacturers and their quality may vary wildly.
I don't know anything about this Waldzither, but I can tell you that I have had very good experiences with the Germany-based Thomann mail-order music store. They really stick to their promise regarding the 30-day money-back guarantee.

Seems expensive for a pac-rim instrument?
You could try a vintage one, David Hynds has one for sale for a lot less than the Gewa: http://www.mandolinluthier.com/mandolins_for_sale_1.htm

Forgot to mention that folk friends have a selection of new waldzithers as well: http://www.folkfriends.com/shop/showprodlist.php?grp=56
