Hi,

I'm from the east coast, but currently working in San Jose. I've been a guitar player for almost 30 years, and kind of took up the fiddle a couple of years ago. I sometimes play with others but mostly record etc.

I'm very excited about having been found by my first mandolin.

It's a 1950 Martin oval hole. I bought it on a whim at a Durham, NC music store and have no regrets. It's really brought a lot of new inspiring sounds to me.

I haven't really found any songs that I want to learn yet, but I have been inspired to find some things that sound good by exploring the instrument.

And so far, the mandolin has inspired a couple of other people to get one, too.

And it's inspired me to have MAS, or GAS. Sure have learned a lot in the last week from this site. Always seems to come up in my searches.

Anyway, glad you all are here and thanks for a great site.

Michael

yes Michael welcome! this site is really inspiring.. I have been a member only a short time. Been with ham radio group for many many years, but love the music and was shocked to run across the cafe! It has inspired me to work harder learning mandolin constuction as well as learning to be a better player. No more late night ham groups...but mando groups. Thanks guys for a nice site. fred

Thanks for all the greetings.

Made it to Gryphon and checked out a few mandolins.

If anyone knows of builders or other places to check out mandolins here, let me know.

Pretty interested in getting an additional mandolin, something like an Ellis A, Varnish Colllins, BRW, etc.

Happy New Year!

You'll get many recomendations for all of our favorite mandolin brands here. The best advise that has been given over & over is to to play one until you find the one that speaks to ya. It usually says... take me take me take me take me take me ... such is MAS. Welcome to the cafe
