Just a heads-up to Oklahoma folks: the FREE Claremore Bluegrasss and Chili Festival has Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, Rhonda Vincent, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, The Whites, and Ronnie Reno on the lineup. The website says to bring $5 for parking, and free admission. I'm excited.
Who's going? Have any of you guys gone to this festival before? Are there any jams there, or is it generally just a concert/chili cook-off?

One other thing: I heard that Ruby's Begonia (local band scheduled to play at this festival) is made up of a bunch of recent Winfield winners from OK; I'd like to hear those guys...

Dave,
I've been the last couple of years, it is a good time. There is some jamming at night, but I usually don't stay for that. I've never paid for parking, but I don't mind walking a little. Bring your own chair and walk to the other stages to see the other groups. One of the locals is SpringStreet and they are good friends and are very good musicians. I hope you enjoy it. I will be at another festival closer to home.

I was thinking about heading up there for it to see Ricky Skaggs. Never have seen him live. I went 3-4 years ago and enjoyed it. Maybe I should throw the mando in the truck with me just in case there is some playing to be done. What festival is closer to home?

Shaun,
Arbukle Bluegrass Park is having their fall festival Thursday - Saturday this week. They are located between Wynnewood and Davis. (Take the Ruppe Road exit to the East.) I guarantee losts of jamming there, but it is $12 a day to get in. I'll be there with a Gibson F-9 with a blonde neck.
Maybe I'll see you there.

Thanks Ron. Enjoy Arbuckle. I've been meaning to make it there for a while now, but I'm gonna go in for the Skaggs show--who knows when I'll have another opportunity.
Hey, maybe you'll see old Scott Whatshisname there. (Last year's Winfield mando winner.) I heard he was there last year.

No problem Dave. BTW, you can catch Ricky next year at the Chili Cook-off (hint, he is there every year ;)). Yeah I heard Scott was there last year, I'm good friends with the lead singer of his band. I know I said this above, but be sure to catch a show of Springstreet, they are very good and have great harmony. Enjoy the show.
