I have a question about tremolo.

When you play a part of a song all in tremolo, do you mark a pause between each tremolo-ed note? Or do you try to change note very fast so as to not interrupt the tremolo?

Not sure I make sense there... #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

Say you're playing GDAE in succession as part of a song. Do you go:
# #G # # # # # # # # # # D # # # # # # # # # A # # # # # # # # # E
DUDUDUDU # DUDUDUDU # DUDUDUDU # DUDUDUDU #

or without a 'pause':
# #G # # # # # # # # #D # # # # # # # #A # # # # # # # #E
DUDUDUDUDUDUDUDUDUDUDUDUDUDUDUDU #

Boy, I am confused!

I think most often I run it all together. But I know that I separate them at times. Depends on what I feel like at the moment.

I'm an artist, not a machine. Sounds like a good excuse for inconsistency to me. ;-)

Hey Tocotodo........that is pretty much what Grisman said about tremelo at the Mandolin Symposium. I took his tremelo class since I think the Dawg has da best, most expressive tremelo, in da bidness.

He said he doesn't count, or play mechanically, he feels it, speeds it up or slows it down depending on the sound he is trying to create. One thing I took away from the class, David also demonstrated his long sliding tremelo which I've added to my licks, post Symposium. Every day I'm reminded of little things I caught a glimpse of at the Symposium in Santa Cruz, and try to incorporate them into my playing.
