Hey all!
I'm relatively (well, VERY) new here and the same pretty much goes for playing mandolin. I bought this, my first mandolin, exactly one week ago and I just can't put it down. I wanted something that was acoustic, portable, and wasn't a guitar (since every man and his dog can play guitar AND they can do it better than me). Since picking it up, I'm learned most of the major chords, a few of the minors, as well as some others (www.mandolincafe.com has been an excellent resource) as well as about 20 or so songs and even some jigs.
It was the best sounding one of the bunch I tried and the price was right (for me). I recognie the Fender name as well, so I figured it was alright, especially for a beginner.
Anyways, enough rambling. Here's a pic a friend of mine shot of me holding latest addition to my collection of musical instruments.

Looking forward to any comments or advice you may have for a beginning mandolin player.
