Would you put stickers on your drum heads?
My wife does, she loves to put stickers on everything. She has a ###### drum set for gigs and has stickers all over it.
I doubt the sound quality of a $100 dollar mando could be compromised by anything other than a bonfire.

If you are going to rock on the thing, the stickers might help hold it together.

Just wait till you tell them you paid a $100 for a rare mandolin worth 1000x times as much. They'd quit teasing pretty quick. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

First off, if you're gonna put stickers on your mando, you have to put a similar sticker on your face. It completes the ensemble. Or so my wife tells me. You must also put it in the same geographical location on your face as on the face of your mando. i.e. If you put it on the upper bass side bout then you need to put the matching sticker on your right eye.

If you do it, just make sure you post some pics of it. First we must approve the layout. Plus we've never seen anything like that before.

"I bought this mandolin at a garage sale for $100. That seems kind of steep since it looks really old and the finish is really distressed. Oh, and it wasn't even signed by Gibson -- instead it was signed by some guy named Lair or Loar or something like that." #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

BTW Lt.Sam, if you haven't yet found this link over in the MAS/John Paul Jones discussion, here is John Paul Jones on mandolin with Sean Watkins on guitar playing an instrumental version of Going to CA. I like it even better than the original. (But your lead singer might not like it as much!)

I plan on working on it, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I'll put it into Tab|Edit once I do so. In the meanwhile, The Amazing Slow Downer (at RoniMusic.com) is a great tool for slowing down the speed of CDs and music files without changing the pitch. You can download a demo online, and it costs about $40 to register it for full functionality.

I reckon it might improve it. Especially if you broke the mando up first! Just think of all that wood being chopped - and the cracking sound it wood make!

She looks fine, I was just goofing around about the bonfire. We save the MK's for that. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
I bet those stickers are much smaller than they look, I would go for it and have some fun. They should even come off pretty easily if you choose to later. My first four mandolins each cost less than $100. I have been gradually upgrading thru the years by buying a better one and reselling the old, each and everyone has sold for a little more than I paid, some more than others. It's best to just play the heck out of them and have fun doing it.
OK -- put the "for the ear" sticker near the F holes
--put the "for the eye" sticker near the pointy ends of the strings (ouch)
-- put "shake well" on your pick.
and, especially -- put " Generic --substitution made" on the headstock --of course.
and, yes, I apologize for all of the foregoing. It has been a long day...

Years ago, I played at a local Eagles Club where I met a guy with a really early Gibson A - at the time, it looked like pictures I had seen of one of Orville's creations, or at least a very early one from the Gibson Co. He had dressed it up by putting 1/2" round prismatic stickers all around the top edge, as well as a few smaller ones for position dots on the fingerboard. He wasn't worried about affecting the sound, and thought it looked really cool.
