I learned Evening Prayer Blues by listening to Bill on the Opry and the Master Of Bluegrass lp but was wondering if anybody has a live recording of him doing it? I've heard him play it live several times and would just like to hear him play it one more time.

And here is the 'original' version of the tune, by Deford Bailey.
Monroe used to have Bailey travel with him back in the early days of the Blue Grass Music, when there were big tent shows, with several acts, mostly other Opry stars.

Whatīs the lineup of the recording (Master of Bluegrass)? Bill Monroe never fails to thrill me. I love the edge on Evening Prayer Blues. Especially who is on guitar? It canīt be Wayne Lewis...?

I think it would have been Wayne Lewis, it was during his hitch anyways;
Butch Robins on banjo, Kenny Baker on fiddle.
Norman Lee Blake is also given guitar credits along with Jesse McReynolds on mandolin, but the tracks they play on are not identified.

Pretty sure Norman Blake is on Evening Prayer Blues.

Can you tell us where and when you heard Mr. Bill play EPB live?
Love to hear all about it....

Live recordings of the tune by him are rare...

My favorite is from Vancouver, BC, Canada on 11/3/1980, where he prefaces the tune with the story about his relationship with Gibson...

I've got it here somewhere, and will see if I can post it...

I've heard him play it on the Opry a couple times and also heard him play it on his bus at Bean Blossom.

One of Frank's authentic Monroeism's is to mess with the timing to try to throw the other guy off.....Ronny ain't having any of it.....
"That's a good mandolin....." Two Loars played by two Hosses.....

My father was a gospel singer and he took me with him on the country church singing tours. The music is seeded back in my mind, and sprouts occasionally.
