I removed an armrest from my varnish finished mandolin ( I had added felt under the cork for further protection) but found that the felt had marred the soft finish. Is there a good way to remove or rub out these marks. Thanks. - Ken

There is probably nothing that will stop those armrests from marring fresh varnish. I was thinking maybe the best thing would be to up a trimmed to fit piece of wax paper under the cork. Anyway, it will probably have to be carefully sanded out and re-french polished or just re-buffed. Or, just put the armrest back on and forget about it.
For the record, I was able to rub out the marks with a combination of lemon oil and rottenstone on a soft cotton cloth. Left no trace of any alteration to the varnish finish. - Ken
