View Full Version : speed vs tone in picks

Just got the $20 ( !) tortis mondo pick and I love it for slow stuff where the rich tones it produces can shine. It makes my previous fave Wegen 1.5 seem brittle by comparison. On faster stuff though, the Wegen seems more accurate, more able to change strings and execute fast note changes. Maybe I'm just not used to the tortis yet and the speed will improve with time. Anyone had similar experiences?

I found the same thing about the Wegen picks in terms of accurate picking. Something about the beveled edge seems to catch the strings just right. On my mando I don't mind the brightness but if my instrument wasn't so warm sounding it might be a problem.

I bounce between a Wegen and a proplec, and I definately notice a big difference in accuracy with the Wegen. I agree, the tone is not quite as full/mellow as with the Plec... but for the most part, I've been really happy with the Wegen and tend to play with a more loose grip with that one (which is much easier on my body & helps my playing) I tend to over-grip the plecs.
