I started playing mandolin just a little over 2 years ago. The first year was a real struggle just playing by myself & along with records & CD s . Then I found a weekly jam I started going to . At that point I really started learning. Then a couple of months ago I met a fellow musician that has a monthly jam that includes some session musicians. Now I have played with much better musicians . It seems like the music is getting easier. So is it rubbing off these better players. PS I am in a new band that is staring up.& I have played a few Gate jams , a nursing home and filled in one opening set with different bands. Ill never be Ricky Skaggs but am so happy that I am getting better http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

I've found that the better the musicians are that I'm playing with, the more it pushes me to work harde to improve myself. I also pick up musical ideas from them as well. There's definitely no substitute for playing with other folks. Fun ain't it?
