I have a 1925 A-4 and I am wondering what type of spruce the top is made of.
I'm jealous. Can you post a pic of it?

Most likely, it is red spruce

What are you basing that on Darryl?...
I'm not arguing with you, I'm just curious as to what you're basing that on...
Company records?
Love to know more...
Most of the A's I've seen, even during the Loar Red Spruce years, have appeared to be Sitka...
A picture might help, carleshicks, but it's sometimes hard to get a picture that will show us what we're looking for...
Is the top bookmatched, or miss-matched?
Is the graining uneven in places?
A quick look with a 30x handlens would tell me whether it's Sitka or not...
Let's see a picture and go from there...
Love to see a pic of it anyway... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
