Well, thanks to all for the help and somewhat limitless knowledge of the world of mandolins. I came here looking to satisfy a need to learn about the mandolin and hopefully learn enough to make my first purchase a wise one. after much reading, listening and looking around, I had to make the decision. And I did.
I started with a budget around $800 for my first mandolin and I will say I stayed fairly close. As I have learned a little about the deli police on this board I find that I must admit to opting for extra meat and cheese. This, however, didn't take me screaming over my initial budget projection, but it did add some cost. I believe it did allow me to get one heck of a deal on a beautiful mandolin. Now to get her here and in my hands making music.
In the end, I decided to buy a "demo" model from Steve Perry at Gianna Violins. In addition to what I understand to be a very thorough set up job by Steve, I opted for the Mandovoodoo (cheese). I was initially looking at the Eastman 505, A model but decided to go with the Eastman 805D (extra meat) 2-point style A model.

A huge thanks goes to Steve at Gianna's for giving me a great price on my first mandolin!! I can't wait to learn some music.
