Just got a laughably cheap Johnson to leave at the office for practice, and am trying to think of a source for a bag for it. I'm not willing to spend $25 on a $50 mandolin.
Any ideas?

A $50 Dollar mandolin???
Was this a new instrument? I retail Johnson mando's and can't buy them whole sale for anything close to that?

Steve, sorry, I'm the second owner of this Lynchburg model. Although I called it laughable, it actually sounds similar to a mandolin now that the bridge is where it belongs, and some minor fret work.
Nice site BTW. You are now officially added to the list of folks I should have seen in June during my visit.

Since a 'tater sack is not in the budget. (what do you do with them when the 'taters are all gone? sein for minners?
On second thought if it's cheap you want, there's nothing cheaper than au naturale. Casing it up would only make it less convenient for swattin' flies!

mandobob-
i have an old harmony or something like that in my office for impromptu picks. #i told my coworkers it helps me think (suckers). #i just threw a loop of bailing wire around a couple of the tuners and hang it from a nail in the wall. #you don't need no stinkin gig bag #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

I'm thinking of a pillowcase - sew the sides to form the shape. Then wrap the mandolin in some padding, put it into the pillowcase and wrap it in duct tape. Remove the mandolin and the padding and you will have a lined soft case. Add a handle (more duct tape) - voilla!

p.s., who needs a case.

Wilson tennis raquet bag from Walmart for $11.00.
I don't use one for this, but my son is a tennis player and a mandolin would fit and it is pretty cheap. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/coffee.gif

I used to use a old flannel pajama pant leg for my violin.
You can find some cheap gig bags on Ebay for under 10$ im sure. I never saw a 50$ Johnson in my life.

Yeah ebay may be the way to go, but then again they may tack on another $10 for shipping. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
