the upper part of my mandolin's adjustable bridge has aquired a crack. (ie. the part that moves up and down on the posts). I could return the instrument on warrenty, but since it was fairly cheap(Rogue) I am not sure this is worth the shipping cost, plus it would leave me 2 weeks with out an instrument to play.
If I take the strings off the mando, will this little piece of wood be easy to remove and replace(it looks like it will slide right off the post)? And secondly, should I be able to go to a music store and buy a semi-universal replacement one that will fit on my adjustment posts for ~ 20$ ?

Any advice would be appreciated?
Thanks

It's a bit of a stretch to think that you can go to your home town music store and buy a mandolin bridge, unless your home town is Lansing, MI. Then you could go to Elderly Instruments and get one. You can always go online at elderly.com and order one.

The Rogues & cheap Pacific Rim mandos are bad about that. It can be super glued......I've done a bunch of them. Just V out the crack with a file & if it broke in the 90 degree corner (where most of them break), build up a fillet (or radius) of super glue there as well.

I suggest that you order a new Smith Bridge from me or any other parts dealer and take it to your favorite repair person to have it fitted. I have found that next to a Tone Gard, a high quality bridge with a good fitting can do more to improve the sound of your mandolin than any other thing you can add to the instrument. Kenc
