I checked the posting guidelines and I don't think I'm violating anything by this post since I have no vested interest in this app (but if I am, my apologies). A while back I bought the Music Trainer app for my itouch and use it all the time to practice mandolin pieces. It allows you to import mp3 files which you can then slow down or speed up to practice along with. You can also change the keys on them, turn on a "count down", loop them, or even select a portion of the song to save as a phrase for additional practice. I saw it advertised on a music school's site, recommending it to students and at the time, I had downloaded Thomas Morley's canzonets midi files to play along with so I converted them to mp3s and now use Music Trainer on my itouch to practice them (with my earphones as to not annoy anyone else) because it will be years before I can actually play them up to speed! Anyway, it's been really helpful and I'd recommend it as a very useful tool

You say it can change keys. If so, can it determine the key of a tune or song? Also you mention MP3. If it's an ITouch/Phone app I assume it can work with the Apple AICC format too?

The one I've found is called The Amazing Slowdowner. It works on both Windows and Mac; there's also an iPhone app. And it does work with Apple's AAC files.

You can change speed and keep the pitch correct. You can change pitch (by half step OR cents) and keep the speed correct.

It's unbelievable. (No financial interest.)

The Amazing Slowdowner costs about 40 bucks but it's an excellent application!! I also have no financial interest.... just a happy user. :)
