I am not sure if the Disc has been talked about here, but I wanted to address Jesse's and Frank's tone/techniques: They are way cool and very individual. I know The Father of Bluegrass is the starting point, but boy do I enjoy how Jesse and Frank have evolved the Mandolin that I hear on that disc. Now I don't own any other Jesse or Frank material, this was my introduction to them, yet I plan on a deep search over the next few months on both players. Wow what a refreshing take on Bluegrass Mando....and as I see it both have been playing for like 50 years....later, dy.

One of the all-time great CD projects for an aspiring mandolin player, in my humble opinion. I listen to it all the time...

I played Mandolin Extravaganza so much I wore it out and had to buy another. If you liked that CD you'd like "Tone Poems I" with David Grisman and Tony Rice.

Mandolin Extravaganza is a great CD to slow down with a PC program (I use SlowBlast) because you don't have all the other instruments like banjos and bass interfering.

One of my favorite cuts on that CD is Ricky Skaggs version of "Boston Boy"

Tone Poems is great, I love how Acoustic Disc puts nice booklets in the cd's. I hear Monroe type mando on the players tunes, sure, but Frank and Jesse just kill with their very own individual style. I have Jesse's VHS tape, I will do a search on Frank, and see if he has any. Later, dy.

In reference to my last post, I found the Cd and the tune is Down Home Waltz written by Buck White. Does anyone know where to find the music or tab for it. Thanks Clamdigger

An outstanding CD; the inclusion of Mike Compton would have been an excellent addition.

Ditto to what Evan said... A MUST-HAVE for the serious BG mando player(and perhaps other variations/genres of the mandolin family). If the rendition of "Ol' Joe Clark" - with ALL(!!) the "masters' playing together - don't "move ya'.... ya' must be dead!! IMHO, of course. - http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/coffee.gif

Down Home Waltz-I believe there is a tab for that in Mandolin Magazine. I think their website has an index of tunes.

There are several versions of Dusty Miller on the TablEdit archive at mandozine.com, and three versions in the Fiddler's Fakebook. Andrew Collins and Marc Roy rip it on their duet album, and Tim O'Brien also does it up well on one of his CDs (The Crossing, IIRC). One of my favourite tunes so far in this crazy mandoness I find myself in! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Right here (http://www.mandolinmagazine.com/cgi/backissues/searchdb.cgi?searchterm=v4n3p23). Sorry, that music isn't online though. Great piece. Used to play it year ago.

I don't believe you need to subscribe to Mandozine to get the tab, no.

Sorry, I was talking about a web site, not the magazine Scott was referring to.
