Weber Gallatin - 'Beautiful in it's elegant simplicity. Not being a professional, I wouldn't be able to justify buying one. 'Just have to be happy with what I have - an Epy MM-50, an Ode and a Weber Sweetpea.

I played a 1923 Lloyd Loar this weekend, and try as I would, the guy wouldn't trade me for my Collings!

I played a lovely Weber Yellowstone at the accoustic music company in Brighton - UK. It was amazingly playable, and sounded great ans smooth to my untrained ears. The price-tag on it was roughly $4500... Arrrrggh! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif I would have bought it if I'd had the money.
This thread is depressing. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

It wasn't for sale, and I wouldn't have had the cash to buy it anyway, but Scott T's Nugget is the nicest playing/sounding mandolin I've ever had the privelege of picking.

my experience with playing good mandolins have been with the following:
most Gibson's including several Loar's
Collins
Monteleone
Michael Lewis
Given's
Flatiron
Unicorn and Mustang
Dudenbostel
Lawrence Smart
Newson
all great mando's
and many, many more but I've got a senior moment of blank

and of course too I've played 107 Cole mandolin's

I havent played anything other than my own stuff in a long while, but a year or so ago I tried a nice Dearstone and a Sumi (prototype Sullivan) at FQMS that if I needed it I woulda bought the Dearstone. The Sumi wasnt for sale.

I think there was a nice sounded Gibson Benson there too.

A Gibson Sam Bush. Hooo-weeee! Love that wide neck. Maybe some day. I would have to afford it and deserve it.

Loars, Loars, and more Loars! #Plus the Benson model I have on loan from Gibson right now, it is sweet! #Hey Warren, I love my Bush model more than most mandos I have played but if you are wanting that wide neck for a little less money call BigJoe because they have an F-5G with the Bush neck and block inlays. #It sounds very close to the Bush models and for the record, you always deserve a mandolin!!!!

The blonde John D'Angelico A-style I recently played at Mandolin Brothers-only $15,000, but worth every penny. The sound will bring tears to one's eyes...

That's easy for me! I want (and will get when I'm ready) a vintage Gibson Master Model, but I only have played new ones that I love but for some reason when I get mine I want one that is at least 30 years old or older because I just keep imagining this deep old woody chop that ONLY a vintage instrument will have after it has opened up and been well played.
