Nice, Gorky. Hope you have a blast with it. I'm not familiar with the Levin Co. Did they make mandolins here in the states or overseas?

Yeah they were a swedish company that made guitars and mandolins between 1900 and 1978. I was worried about the transition from acoustic guitar to mandolin but after an hour on this bad boy i was murdering REM losing my religion quite successfully! ha! At least now i can do my Chris Thile impression infront of my mirror!

Those are very nicely made. IIRC, those are all solid woods, especially from that era. Levins were Built in Gotteberg Sweden. The company later built Goya Guitars which were also all solid wood and were quite popular in the 1960's.

My first guitar was a 1963 Goya F-27 Folk Guitar. The company was later bought out by C. F. Martin and I think they sold them in the U.S. under the Levin name for a while. They always made several different models of mandolins. That's a nice one. Enjoy it! :)

Just thought i'd post a little clip of what my Levin sounds like. keep in mind it was only recorded on a iphone with no processing or effects.

Cheers.

Sounds great! I am surprised an iphone alone can record that good. But what do I know.

Great playing too.

A mandolin that looks that good, and sounds that good, you have a gem there. Enjoy.
