my Pt-2 doesn't work for me anymore, changed the batterys and they lasted one week.
Time for a new tuner, one that will pick up the g string on my octave.
Anyone have any good suggestions?

Get the new Intellitouch PT10. I picked one up this past weekend and it's a great little device...working well on my Taylors, my mandolin and my baritone ukulele. I do have the rattle issue with mine...especially pronounced at higher freqs. Need to either figure out whether to return for a non-rattling PT10 as I have seen other members do or live with it.

I've had good luck with the Korg CA30 (http://www.korg.com/Product.aspx?pd=99) -- but it's not a clip-on. I bought one of those suction-cup sensors that sticks to the instrument and plugs into the tuner input, but you can use it with the built in mic as well. I can tune bass fiddle with it, so it'll get your OM's 4th string, at least in my experience. Costs less than $20. One warning: Musician's Fiend (misspelling intentional) says "this product has been discontinued," though there still seem to be a ton of them for sale.

Several options I use: a clip on piezo sensor and a Korg CA10 now 20 years old, 9v.
a PT1,
or, handy is an old favorite, the 'A' Tuning fork.
But the one tuner I can always find is the electronic Keyboard .

My TuneTech TT-500 works on the low G on my OM just fine. For mandocello, guitar and bass, however, it can't pick up the lowest strings. It also rattles if left on while playing. For the cello and guitars I use a Planet Waves that has no discernible model number. It's rectangular shaped, and has a pretty strong spring to clip on the headstock. Doesn't rattle at all, but has left a little mark on my cello. Picks up everything on my 12 string, so it's probably the only tuner I really need. Clip ons are a must for me in crowded jams indoors or at campgrounds.

Lots of tuner threads in the equipment section, but I like the newish Sabine Zoid.

I bought myself 2 recently. One for each mando case. I got a Korg AW-2G and an Intellitouch PT10. They both work.
I was replacing an older electronic tuner that quit even with new batteries. I'm mystified why it stopped working, but then again, I have two children under the age of 8 and I did leave it out just before it stopped working. Who knows? Maybe they put it in the aquarium? There is a return policy for some Intellitouch products. For 8 bucks, they will send you a new one I think. Maybe send them an email.

I have a Korg CA-30 too. It works fine for guitar, mandolin, bouzouki and OM. It doesn't seem to have any issues with the bottom G string on the OM.

the one I had barely picked up the low G string.

I bought the clip on pickup to use with my Korg CA30, it works OK but is much more sensitive to the low strings (both Mando and OM) when I clip to a tuning knob. the bridge is OK but the knob is the best.
Just got a PT10 and it's a real trip watching the colors change when I am playing. LOL It really locks onto a note quickly. Much faster than the CA30 or the old PT2 that also just died. I may spend the 8 bucks to get a replacement.
