I have been looking at http://www.thewoodwell.com" for getting wood for my first mandolin. i would be getting the flattop and back. so, does anybody have an opinnion about this place?

don't know about the wood well, but bruce harvie is a cafe resident who deals in some right purdy tonewoods.

Definitely check out Bruce, he has some excellent timbers (specifically for instrument makers), and his prices are reasonable.

I wouldn't say spruces prices are reasonable. No, I would say they are the BEST!! When I was looking everyone was higher and the grading seemed inconsistent. Spruce made it clear what I would get and he was spot on. John

I second or third that about Spruce. Great guy and good service with the best prices around!

Spruce (aka Bruce Harvie) is a wonderful guy to work with. I bought some maple and spruce from him and he was the greatest. Sent me some fine wood at a very reasonable price.

I bought all my wood for my first custom mando from Bruce too. ---Great international sale---

(PS he can pick the heck out of a mando too... there's just something about buyin' wood from a guy who's a first rate picker....)
