Scott,
The link doesn't discuss the best size of the file. I have unsuccessfully tried to post images and finally gave up.

Scott, I think you should add the following to your "How to" section:
1) The Image button in the Quick Post box at the bottom of a thread only allows the posting of an image's web address.
http://www.grandmainger.com/cafe/insert_image.gif
This means that you can only enter in this field the URL of an image that is already on the internet. For example:
If you press the image button, and enter the following URL: http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html....ogo.gif (http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/Skin/Default/images/logo.gif)
you will post the mandolincafe's message board logo:

If you want to use an image from your own computer on the message board, you need to follow a different method:
2) Press the Add Reply button:
http://www.grandmainger.com/cafe/add_reply.gif
You will be taken to a new page where you can enter the content of your message, as well as attach an image to your post using this field:
http://www.grandmainger.com/cafe/attach_image.gif
Be aware that the board only allows attached images up to 70kb in size, so you may need to use an image editor to save a lower resolution, higher jpg compression version of your image before you can post it.

There are various ways to reduce the size of an image to the 70kb threshold required for posting images to the mandolincafe board.
There are two main steps to take: reduce the actual image size (ie the number of pixels that make up the image), and save a copy of the image
using a higher JPG compression setting.
First of all, check the software that came with your digital camera! There usually is a function to resize image, and almost certainly a
function to save your image as a JPG with a high compression setting.
Failing this, read on:
I am going to assume that you are using a Windows PC running Win2000 or XP.
Method 1)
Windows XP/2000 often have installed as standard have a very handy software called PhotoEditor, which is usually located here:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\PhotoEd\PHOTOED.EXE
To resize your photos for posting:
1) Open your image with PhotoEditor
2) From the [Image] menu, select [Resize]
3) Adjust the Height/Width to the desired value (Rule of thumb: for web posting, shrink the longest side to about 640 pixels)
4) Click [OK]
5) Select SAVE AS... from the [File] menu and save your resized picture with a different name as the original, unless you want to overwrite your
original large file.
6) Select JPEG as the [Save As Type], and adjust the [JPEG quality factor] to about 60 or 70, although 40 is still OK.
7) Click [Save]... You're done!
Method 2) (taken from another thread here on the board by Django Fret)
If you have Powerpoint on your computer, there is a quick and dirty way to do this. #You can copy the image taken with your camera onto a
Powerpoint slide and then reduce it down in size or crop it to make it smaller. #
You can then go to "file" and select "save as". #Save the slide as a JPEG using the pull-down menu and when prompted, just export that one
slide. #If you find it is still too big, go back to the Powerpoint slide and reduce it further, or crop it even more.
