I have found sites such as DePaule, and other sources of inlays and inlay material to buy out there, and both Roger's books have examples in the back, which I have used a couple and like. I sort of enjoy the cutting the shell part of the build as much as any part, but I myself am hardly artful enough to draw a fern or flowerpot (or box for that matter). Are there any publications or books or anything of that nature showing the various inlay designs?

Take a look at Dave Nichol's site www.custompearlinlay.com. He used to have some examples and PDF's.

If you go to an art store you can find lots of books of designs. I have books of human figures, baroque, Florentine, art deco, art nouveau, art in nature, and others, all not copyright protected. You can look through there, choose designs or bits of designs, mix and match, that sort of thing. I sometimes just look trough the books for inspiration and ideas for details of my own designs.

Dover Publications is a good source for art books containing un-copyrighted material.

Books of stained glass designs. The limitations of glass design are similar to what you are experiencing for inlay work; i.e., breaks in the deisgn to relieve stress, etc.
