No offense to MK. They make a great product for the money. But I don't get it. Why would anyone make a fake MK? You can buy a real one without parting with much cash. If you're going to make a fake, make a fake Gibson.
There must be another explanation. Maybe this guy just customized his MK?

Looks real to me; probably an early one they sold on Ebay before. They had many different specs on the prototypes--different woods, finishes. They were experimenting a lot and sold those on Ebay then eventually developed their standard line of mandos. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks real to me. Also, why would someone copy a copy? It seems it would cost some $ just to have someone do an inlay that says "MK" to put on a cheaper imported F style.

Ahh... that sounds reasonable, Professor.

I'm with the Professor: MK did produce some flat-scroll laminated models when they were still selling all of their instruments on-line and at eBay.

Who would fake an MK? A forger with really low self-esteem! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
It would be like a counterfeiter who specialized in $1 bills!
It's the phony Johnsons that really rankle me!

It's really a Brunk-or at least I think that's what you call them. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Are you sure you don't mean "Bunk"?
Anyway,
I have seen this type of MK before. I remember talking to Tracey about these and he told me that the flat scrolls were plywood made. I had bought one before. It was a solid top and carved top scroll with plywood back with a flat scroll on the back. It had the same inlay. Not a real hot mandolin. But not fake.

I agree I don't think anyone would waste time making a fake MK... Looks realy too me, although I've never played one... But looks consistant with the other ones online with the exception of the flat scroll...
