when was hendrix out of tune?
I was flipping through the channels last night and VH-1 was doing one of thier "list" shows. This one was something like "The 50 Greatest Hard Rock Acts." Hendrix was #3, I didn't bother to see who was #2 and #1. But there was a great quote about Hendrix on there, "If Jimi accidentally hit a wrong note, he would just bend it until it expressed what he was feeling at the time." I think that was about right!
If you've ever listened extensively to Hendrix bootleg tapes, and I have, he was out of tune quite a bit. #But like John posted above, somehow he usually made it sound right. #Or maybe it was the weed...hmmm, but that was a long time ago http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/coffee.gif

Hendrix played hard and worked the neck, whammy bar and the guitar body itself to coax any and all sounds he could from his stock Stratocaster. This was before the technology of locking nuts that Van Halen, Satriani, Steve Vai, etc. used to dive bomb notes with and come back in perfect tune.
Did Hendrix go out of tune? Of course. But, who cares. He still showed everybody from Adrian Belew to Eric Johnson what was possible on the electric guitar.

As a uke player and a retired rock 'n roller, I was intrigued by this "Jimi Hendrix of the uke". He has a nice website. I wrote to my sister who lives in Honolulu and she told me that she "didn't like" watching him in live performance, but his CD's were everywhere. I told her to mail me one. 'Cant wait to hear it. I have a Risa solid body electric uke that I occasionally plug into a wa-wa pedal and other effects pedals - fun to play Hendrix solos on a ukulele. ' It sounds like he also plays jazz, blues and classical.

I have a CD by Jake's band Pure Heart, and it is fabulous. I've read that they are on break from performing as a band while each of the three of them complete their college degrees, but their self-titled CD is awesome, on which they do a really great cover of UB40's "Bring me your cup".

Uke rules.
There is a guy in the Milwaukee, WI area named Lil' Rev (he has had a few plugs on the cafe)
He has an album worth searching for called "Fountain of Uke". Lots of classic oldtime/bluegrass stuff along with some Lead Belly and the like. He also plays a real mean harmonica.
Here ends Lil' Rev's Plug.
I saw he was either playing with Anger/Marshall.........or opening for them.
In a coupla months here in the SF Bay Area. #Villa Montalvo.
