Can anyone give a list of the companies that will do cases for custom shaped mandolins? Pros/Cons if you have experience.

Modern Case Company and Calton are the two I am aware of. I have not ordered from either, but I made inquiries with Modern and they were very nice and responsive. Also, I have heard great things about them.

I have a friend that special ordered a upright bass case for his 1/2 sized bass from Modern. They were very speedy and affordable for that instrument. Very nice looking finished product.

I just received two custom Cedar Creek mandolin cases. They are the same company that makes TKL. #The cases are oblong with custom interiors. #Great cases at a great price.

Hey Pete....sorry to hear about your axe....how'd your mando have problems in a Calton?
Inquiring mando player w/ several instruments in Caltons wants to know.

Kingham Case Company (http://www.kingham.co.uk/) in the UK will make you any case for any odd shape you want -- for a price. A custom bowlback ccase would cost me around $400.
I believe that calton only makes their std cases and not customs. Modern makes whatever size and shape to fit.

Hi Arthur. #I had my Gil in the Calton, locked, picked up the case about 4" off the floor and it slipped out of my hand, fell on a heavily padded carpeted floor in my house. #When I looked at the snapped headstock area, the rivets in the hinge had been riding against the headstock scroll. #I hadn't noticed before as I assumed it was padding against the scroll.
My advice for Calton owners is look closely at this area. #Calton claims it had nothing to do with their design and were complete jerks on this subject. #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif
I plan to get a Pegasus case when he starts taking orders again.

I just started using an Eastman case, I had a very careful look
at how my mandolins fit in it. it is well padded in the right places and my mandolin fit well and snug, no room for anything else though, so I carry my tuner, picks, etc. seperately.
Overall a very nice case, and not as bulky or clutsy as the Calton.

I would contact Rob Anderson at: robanderson316@eudoramail.com He recently completed a double mando case for me and it turned out fabulous. I hope to post an image of it here soon. He was great to work with and reasonably priced. I believe he could make any configuration you would like. I couldn't be happier with my custom case.

I think Calton will make in inside to fit any mando. I know that you can send them measurements of your mando if it is not a stardard size and they will make the inside custom. At least that is my understanding, please correct me if I'm mistaken.

Calton will indeed custom fit the insides of their cases to any specification. #They did that for my Lyon & Healy Style A and it fits like the proverbial glove. #There's a mando template (as well as a guitar template) on the Calton website that shows you what measurements they want, and it's a lot of measuring.
I have no proprietary, etc., interest in Calton, but they've treated me with professionalism.

I suppose that if you have an instrument that will fit within the depth of thier cases, then they will customize the interior. I had inquired as to cases for bowlback mandolins and thy told me that they could not do it. In that case they are not really a custom case maker like Kingham or Modern.
I contacted Cedar Creek also and they told me the same thing.

You're right, Mr. Garber, and I should have made it clear that in order for Calton to do a custom order the instrument must be of dimensions that will fit one of their shells.
I sure do miss those Harptone bowlback cases.

Hi Chris,
I make custom hardshell cases for mandos and other smaller instruments. Full form fit with your choice of interior and exterior fabrics. They are finger jointed 1/4" birch plywood boxes. $200 for tolex, add $25 for lacquered fabrics.
The web site is not up yet but here is a link to some photos and a shot of a lacqurerd tweed lap steel case.

I sure do miss those Harptone bowlback cases.
I did contact TKL who bought out Harptone to see if they had any knocking around their warehouses. They said no. Oh well.
