I am planning to do a program of classical and folk music on the mandolin for our library next year. I'd like a site for an article that gives some history on the mandolin.
Thanks,
Nick Royal

I Googled "History of the Mandolin" and among the many relevant sites and links came up.
This is one http://www.amazon.com/History-Mandolin-Instrument-Literature-Seventeenth/dp/0961412003

Google is amazing.

Nick,

If you have a chance to look at them, the two books I think would be most helpful for the classical side of things are The Early Mandolin by Tyler and Sparks and [I]TheClassical Mandolin[I] by Sparks. UC Santa Cruz owns both of these. As far as the mandolin in early America (18th century) take a look at this thread (http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31944) and if you scroll down a bit you will find an article I wrote on mandolin in colonial America.
