View Full Version : Obscure chords

Hi Folks,

My first post, feel free to direct me to a better forum for this question if necessary. Thanks.

Just started a year or so ago, trying to make the sparce moments I have to play as inspiring as possible so I download chords to favorite tunes and strum and sing into the night. I want to get more serious about scales and pickin' but that's for another post. Meanwhile, although I have found many chords resources online, I've been too cheap to by a chords book and have run into a few that I cannot find. If this is not the best place to ask, no prob. If I should get my cheap ### to the store and buy a chord book instead of pestering y'all, let me know. Anyway, missing Eb7sus4, Dm9, Bbadd4 in GDAE regular tuning. "Dogs" looks fun to play!

Many thanks to any helpers!

ChordFind (http://chordfind.com/4-string/) will help you with at least two of those.

Here are some possible ways to finger those chords...

Dm9 (spelt D, F, A, C, E)

GDAE
7300 #(D, F, A, E)

or

GDAE
5300 (C, F, A, E)

or

GDAE
2330 (A, F, C, E)

or

GDAE
2030 (A, D, C, E)

or

GDAE
5251 (C, E, D, F)

Eb7sus4 (spelt Eb, Ab, Bb, Db)

GDAE
3144 (Bb, Eb, Db, Ab)

Bbadd4 (I'm assuming this is spelt Bb D Eb F)

GDAE
3151 #(Bb, Eb, D, F)

===================================

On chords with more than 4 notes (e.g. Dm9), the "color tones" in the chord which give it a distinctive sound are the 3rd, 7th, 9th, 11th, and 13th notes. The root (1st) and 5th can usually be omitted as they provide the least amount of color for the chord (let the guitar, bass, or other instruments carry the root and 5th).
