It's almost an insult to your intelligence. Do these idiots think we are really that stupid to mistake Givson for Gibson?? sheesh!

I love it; there are really some pretty stupid folks running around loose.

Givson is an Indain brandname that has been around for years. You've gotta love the logo. Here's (http://www.givson.com/home.html) the company website.

I hear they're only really valuable if signed by Floyd Loor

Beware of imitations.

That cracked me up when I saw it on the website

Technically speaking these are not fakes or imitations, since most of their products in no way resemble those of Gibson, so I can't believe that they are trying actually trying to fool anyone into buying a fake Gibson -- but the logo is clearly, uh, inspired by Gibson.

I think the name was too. They've been around for a long time. I wish I could find the picture I used to have of their factory, they were a pretty good sized operation.

I have it on good authority:

"Givson Guitar is one of the best selling guitars in India. They are known for its quality. "

These babies have been mentioned around here before. What has impressed me is their versatility. This one is a GIVSON ELECTRIC MANDOLIN~TUNE TO~BANJO~MANDOLA~GUITAR - that's quite a range.

By the way, Givson gets around. You can also buy THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST USED DVD - MEL GIVSON FILM. Remember - V is next to B on a keyboard.

Are you sure that isn't actually a Bollywood remake of Gibson's film?

No way of telling! It's only $3, though ... ;)

Hmmm... I might give it a shot then -- maybe the addition of a Bollywood soundtrack and dance routines would lighten it up a bit, since IIRC the orginal was somewhat intense.

Not to worry. Orbille Givson died a long time ago, even though the legacy of his namdolins lives on ... ;)

Unfortunately I can't embed this, but here's an option for distressing one as well.

Now would you leave your Givson in the cab or the bed for the best tone? And is there a follow up for antiquing the tuners to match the body/neck afterwards?

The first time I was in Australia. I bought a Maton guitar in a pawn shop and figured it was a take off of "Martin" as "maaaton" is kind of how an Australian would pronounce Martin. It turned out that Maton really was the builders name and it was a pretty good guitar in it's own right. Maybe this was made by the ####### Swedish son of Bob Givens.

His name was actually Apu (Nahaspeemapedalan) Givson, and the instrument is already distressing enough....

They are sure liking the Givsons in India. I guess its a case of bad breath is better than no breath, especially for starter guitar.

Coincidentally, I believe Givson was founded by Chandrakanth (Chandu) Givson.

As shown here, (http://www.givson.com/products5.htm) Givson also makes acoustic mandolins, and a "G B 10 Synthetic Banjo," which may be an improvement over all those natural-materials banjos out there that keep annoying us.

Back in the cold war days and the movement for non-alignment India was very much into manufacturing pretty much everything there was or at least everything they needed or used. I remember Coca Cola giving up the potential market of 1/6th of mankind rather than turn over the formula. India had their own version called "Campa Cola" and the graphics on the bottle were just like Cokes. India was the only place in the world that I had spent any time where they seemed to have little or no interest in Western music. Disco and Bob Marley the world around when I was traveling but not in India.

I've never heard of Givson, but if I had stumbled across one I would have compared it to a Cheby Cameerlo. I got a good belly laugh from this thread. Thanks!

I have a buddy who will only buy goods made in the USA, and one night discussing this by a campfire ,he even showed me his ballcap "made in the USA" one the inside. I sort of broke his heart when I looked at it real close, I noticed it said "made by USA" pronounsed you-sa an oriental co. My friend tossed his hat in the flames and said "it makes a good fire" Buyer beware!

Does anyone have really good eyes? It kind of looks like those Mandolins have a zero fret.

Surprisingly my accoustic is my 2nd Give-son(the 2nd time round I was givvens the choice of 2)

the 1st Give-son was a Ajr for birthday when younger... no pics of this one.

Both hand built, they are two of the coolest things I've ever been given in my life.
