IBMA article and nominee list (http://www.cmt.com/news/articles/1490405/20040819/krauss_alison.jhtml?headlines=true)

Lots of my favorites among the nominees, but I must say I'm REALLY pulling hard for the Team Flathead CD as Instrumental Album of the Year. It is definitely among my top 2 or 3 all-time favorite Bluegrass Instrumental sessions (and that is from a long, distinguished list)

If "Hold On, We're Strummin'" wins either of the two awards it's up for, that'd be a major mando coup!

I can't believe that Chris Thile wasn't nominated for mandolin player of the year. #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

I can, since it's bluegrass mando. I remember hearing Grisman saying that he's never been nominated because he doesn't play bluegrass...

I found this comparison interesting:

SPBGMA 2004 Nominees:
Wayne Benson, Alan Bibey, Vernon Hughes, Ronnie McCoury, Adam Steffey, Larry Stephenson

IBMA 2004 Nominees
Sam Bush, Mike Compton, Doyle Lawson, Ronnie McCoury, Adam Steffey

I've always pondered the contrasting natures of SPBGMA and IBMA Nominees. I've always wondered why it was that way.

Maybe the change will diminish now that "NASHVEGAS" has it's hooks in IBMA for good, now that the HG is there.

Enjoy the final IBMA to be held in the Bluegrass state this year. After that, it's all in Nashville!!

(Let's all say a Silent Prayer......OH GOD, please don't let Bluegrass get turned down the same commercialistic, flavor-of-the-day road that "Country" has been steered down.)

Youll see how many my all time favorite Del Mccoury Band has. They dominate the nominees. Yeah i think they deserve every one!
