Good Evening:

I have been playing a couple of years and I am gaining confidence and can play OK. Because I am self taught, I have no doubt picked up bad habits.

Has anyone used "Essential Technique for Mandolin" by Chris Thile ? It has DVD and lesson book.

I was looking for a program to fine tune my skills and possibly recognize bad habits and correct them before I advance further. :mandosmiley:

Thanks,

Mike

Yes I have it and have enjoyed it alot. I have been playing for just a little over a year and have been a good referance. Any of the Homespun stuff is great.

I bought the Thile DVD a few years ago and it was ok, but I think you would get a lot more out of Mike Marshall's Fundamentals DVD. Mike gets into the details of technique and gives you some really effective exercises. There's no "Here's how I play this song" type of thing. It's focus is strictly on developing good technique.

I agree with Mike, about Mike.
I do have Thile's DVD, and he does make some very good points.
But mostly I love watching him play the tunes in it, for entertainment.
