I am looking for any information regarding the early, prototype versions of this mandolin. The one I have has no paper label or stamping of any kind inside the instrument. How many were made? Is there a way to date them? etc.
Thanks

I don't mean to be a wise guy here, but did you try contacting the company through their website? That would seem to me to be the most reliable source of information.

The person I got it from said he bought it thru the Music Link. I'll send them an email and see how responsive they are. Hmmm, "musta left it in China"....how clever!

There were a number of prototypes (I played most of them as the model was developed) that rolled through in early 2007, and probably stayed around the office until that summer before they got passed around. Some were a bit rough in the details but had good sound. They would not have had paper labels.

Thanks Paul,
The one I acquired had a few minor finish issues around the inner edges of the F holes. The machines were cheap, made in Korea. The rectangular case is without "The Loar" lettering. That's about it.

I'm certain that "my" "LM-600-VS" is NOT a prototype, and indeed has a label. I too would've believed that you could have received help from: http://www.theloar.com/
