Check this out...this is a key example of what all the pro's here tell us about tackling something before learning to use your tools and developing some woodworking skills.

However, it does look salvagable and a nice project!

Almost as much to ship it as to buy it! It does look like a cutie though. Is it here in North America?...Kerry..I'd love to rebuild it...

Great to get a look at the interior for construction details. Is that a wide tone bar going up the center?

That would predate Gibson Loar era longitudinal tone bars by about 10 years then, is this a mid teens vintage instrument?

The label alone is worth the price!

Am I seeing things, or did they remove the back with a bandsaw?... ouch!http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

Tommy,
The back does not appear to have cut off with a band saw. The kerfed linings look to be intact on the sides. Backs can be taken off with the careful use of heat, moisture and a flat spatula. I have removed the top of a busted up classical guitar this way with little damage to the linings and none to the sides.
By the way here is a 1913 Shutt (http://www.vintageinstruments.com/museum/shutta2fulpage.html) that appears to be in pretty good condition. Note it is #2505 and the one sold on ebay is #2101.

Reminds me of the story of the guy that got the family Colt pistol ready to sell. He wanted a good price, so he sanded her down, re-blued her, then swapped out the old fashioned, worn, wooden grips for some modern plastic ones. Made the old 'Peace Maker' look factory new.
Serial number?.... 1. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif
Yes, he tossed out the 'old' grips.
Oh, man, if that's true.......

Though a non-builder, I would love to watch the restoration/build process. It would have been nice to see a group of cafe builders each take a part in it...
