Yeah...not a bad band.......especially for a get in free show, at a record store.........

Chris Thile & Edgar Meyer, and Hilary Hahn among many others have played at Amoeba in the past few years........they have live music pretty regularly at both the SF and Berkeley stores.........but anything with a mandolin is pretty rare.

I have really enjoyed Elvis's venture that they discuss here, Spectacle (Sundance ch.). Having worked some in TV and radio, I know how tough it is to break out of the most predictable molds when interviewing musicians. EC has done a good job, I think, on a number of fronts.

It helps that he and the guest punctuate the conversation by reaching for instruments to play a few bars of something.

He brings both personal empathy and professional experience to the interviews. Speaking to Elton John about the uses of a stage name, and persona...

Trading stories about the American musicians that toured England when he was a young un.

Exploring the depth and breadth of Pres. Clinton's musical interests.

I dig his 'in concert' introduction to the guest... calling them up to the stage with imaginative writing and playing.

And the man loves vintage American guitars. That's fun.

From the way Lauderdale's got his eye trained on Elvis I'm guessing he doesn't know the words to the song.:))

He finally gave Mike a break!

I like the record, but it's a little frustrating how under-utilized the band members are. A few less lyrics and a few more breaks would have made it a great record, but that's EC for you.
