I was just listening to a Woodsongs show with Andy Leftwich playing fiddle and mandolin. He is incredible on both. On mandolin, he's up there with just about anybody, IMHO.
Anybody have his CD? How many mando songs are on it vs. fiddle? I want it even if it's all fiddle, but 1/2 mando would be nice.
I watched that show last weekend. He's great. First time I really saw him play was on DIY and I figured it was just the Dude he was playing. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif I don't have his CD but it is on my get list.

Yea he's awesome. I have his CD, he usually does the fiddle and mandolin tracks for each song .Technically probably one the closest to Chris, and sounds amazing to, probably not quite Chris but very good. And he plays fiddle like a madman too.

I've been Preaching that Andy Belongs in the Same category as Thile for a long time!! Alot of people thought I spoke with a "evil forked tongue " for saying it,but oh well. Not only is his ability to play 300 miles an hour with great clarity, but he can also play and touch your heart too.
Theres 13 cuts on the project, all are instrumental,Andy plays Mando and Fiddle equally on the project, with Skaggs playing one song on the mando inwhich Andy plays all Fiddle.
On top of his musical abilities,he seems like he packs alot of character also ,which gets hium extra points with me.

I have Andy's CD. He is really awesome. Really, I kind of like him better than Thile. Check out cmt.com. They have four videos of Andy Leftwich playing. It is just him, a bass and guitar. Three of the videos have him on fiddle and one is mandolin. Really cool stuff.

On top of it all, Andy is really a great guy also. I was lucky enough to meet him 2 years ago, he was in town to do session work at the same studio where I was recording my project, I was able to procure his fiddle talents for the recordings. He was gracious enough to understand it was a low budget, personal project and charged me accordingly. A christian, a gentleman, and an amazing talent. If anyone is interested go to www.legendsoundstudio.com , enter the site and click on "who's in", find the "Dogwood Hollow Boys" album cover and click on it, it will let you access sound bites of some of his work on the fiddle. #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Ok, let me see how the burn comes out...anything for the "Boys in the 'Hood!" Send me an email and I'll send my mailing address, I'd ask for a blank DVD R (+ or -) in a stamped (real stamps), self-addressed CD mailer back to you.

I will say Amen to that, brother! #As incredible as Chris Thile is, I believe Andy is every bit his equal. Perhaps I'm of that opinion because I find his musical style more accessible to me than Chris' and so I'm able to appreciate it more (not that I don't appreciate the brilliance of Thile's music). But anyhow, it's all subjective. The bottom line is that Andy is musical genius on both fiddle and mando and apparently he's a fine person to boot. I hope I'll have a chance to meet him in the near future.

I met Andy in Myrtle Beach in 2004. What a great young man(though we are the same age). He was kind enough to take a picture with me. I'll post it if I can sometime this week. Wish I ahd his e-mail address or he had a solo web site I would send him one. Oh he is better than thile anyday hand down.

Very deft picker, indeed. He does a passage on the above video jam with Ickes in all chimes (artificial harmonics). That ain't easy.
Believe it or not I found it a Wal-Mart . It is titled Best of Bluegrass Gospel .
